I live in Stockholm, Sweden.. which is much higher up on the globe than i used to be, in Southern California. i’m the kinda person who notices that the moon comes up in different places all the time, and either floats across the bottom of the sky, or makes a huge arc over it — for the longest time i wanted to know WHY. in So Cal, it was way more predictable. so last night, finally, i googled and wiki’d until i figured it out. my question being whether or not the moon orbits the Earth on the same plane as the Earth orbits the sun. —- because the earth rotates at a 23.something degree axis - and obviously, the moon’s trajectory isn’t consistently over the equator. the only guess i could make was that what i see would make sense if the moon orbits us on the same plane the sun does. but TADA! it doesn’t. it has it’s own inclination. not super important information, but i’m stoked to have finally figured it out.
